I've recently been trying to understand what the mormon church teaches (it is not the church of our God), and I thought I might share some things I have been thinking about. My next post was going to be on the nature of God and then hopefully on to how sin entered the world through Adam - giving a breif history of the pre-flood era and the characters of Enoch, Methuselah and Noah.
I was actually quite angry with what the mormon faith says about our Heavenly Father, I have heard nothing so preposterous in all my life. It is a sham. They even claim that God lives on a planet called 'Kolob'. Spell that backwards and I think it sums up the story that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young tried to sell. Without God there is nothing, He needs nothing, and to Him alone be the Glory as He has no equal. In anycase here is a response I prepared to a posting I saw citing that Joseph Smith was the Elijah that was to straighten the paths for God's return to His temple.
The scripture states that the next time Christ returns will be to the mount of olives, and the witnesses for this will be the church (the body of Christ). There is no longer a path to prepare for the restoration is a work that lies in the hands of Yeshua HaMassiach (Jesus Christ). Joseph Smith could not have been a prophet with the spirit of Elijah as he bears a false witness to the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Check out 1 John 2:22...* Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.* Please don't take offence at this, but challenge me with scripture if you feel I'm wrong.
On the surface this seems quite a simple verse, and does not cause any problems. That is until we dig deeper. You see the problem lies with the mormon interpretation of the Nature of God. This is what the scripture says:
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one." Deut 6:4 (Known as the Shema)
"for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me," Isaiah 46:9
"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God." Psalm 90:2
“For I the Lord do not change;" Malachi 3:6
"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1-3
"This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God." John 5:18
We see throughout scripture (there are a lot more passages to show this) that Jesus is the only expression of the eternal Father that we can see - it was the miracle of salvation that God himself became flesh and dwelt among us. God describes Himself as light, and that in Him there is no darkness. Jesus was that light in the flesh, in the dark world.
Joseph Smith could not have seen God - even Stephen in Acts 7:55 only saw Jesus (notice the phrasing 'Glory of God') because God is spirit. The three are distinct expressions of the Holy God (Elohim), Yahweh - but Christ is the name of the only begotten (see Hebrews) son of the most High God. We will never be more than human, never be more than a living soul (1 Cor 15). We are not co-equal with the eternal God, the unchanging one, the ancient of days. We are as grass before Him, and many will be consumed when the day of the Lord comes.
By the way, the Revelation of Jesus Christ (Rev 11) talks of two witnesses who will come to Israel at the time of the tribulation - it is most likely that these will be Elijah and Enoch as neither of these yet have tasted death, and it is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment.
We also could not have pre-existed in any sense (because we are not begotten), and Jesus is not the brother of satan as LDS teaches. Jesus is YHWH (I am becoming what I am becoming). God has no equal, and therefore can have no opposite. God is light and life, outside of His grace is death and darkness.
By this reasoning I declare that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, and the church of LDS is a sham. I'm sorry if this offends, but it is the truth.
Please challenge me if you disagree.

Don't feel sorry if it offends. The Mormon church is truly an AntiChrist establishment.
Talk about Doctrines of Demons.
I like Morgan, Lawrence, Jenny, Olivia and all the other Mormons who we used to be in school with. But they know what I beleiev about it all.
DEMONIC!!!
hee hee,
I like your "Read 'Kolob' backwards" line.
Joe...
Makes you sick doesn't it. I've read so many testemonies of people who's lives have been destroyed by it. One man said he felt 'spiritually and emotionally raped'. He lost his family and his children, because of the forced divorce. Poor people, they come out and they are truly lost.
I know someone who was a Spirit-Filled believer who stayed within the Mormon church to preach the true gospel.
he even actually wrote to the head of the church and challenged their unbiblical practice.
He was, suprisingly, asked to leave.

Hi Teif,
You have done a lot of work on the Mormon belief.
They make the fatal mistake of putting all their hope in mere men and their teaching which is false
and not believing in a literal place called Hell.
Like all cults their belief system is based on men and the secrecy that surrounds that.
it's really sad, because the Mormons that I have spoken to have been such nice people. They are very difficult to reason with and even when you present them with the truth they deny it.

Guys, if you copy/paste this link into your address bar (the two halves) it takes you to a cartoon explaining some of the teachings of mormonism. I don't know how Joseph Smith convinced people to believe him - even have them leave everything and move to a new land. My only answer is that there was (and is) some demonic hold there. It is so full of deceit and lies - forcing divorce and contradicting the very scriptures! And yet God has let them continue. What hope is there to break such a stronhold as this. God himself will have to bring it down by His Holy Spirit.
Teifon - sorry can't disagree with anything that you've writtern.
Mormon (called Latter Day Saints or simply "LDS") won't tell you somethings unless you ask, esp when doing door to door and raises some concerns as a Christian.
The first concerns many LDS beliefs that separate them from historical, orthodox Christianity. These are not found in the Book of Mormon. In fact, there is really very little in that book that is doctrinally disagreeable to orthodox Christians. The real meat of Mormonism is found in their other scriptures, The Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price. These books, however, Mormons do not hand out at the door - and for good reason. If people knew up front what they were really going to be asked to believe (things such as God once being a man, denial of the Trinity, Satan being Jesus' brother, pre-existence of souls, etc.) they may not be quite so willing to put aside their skepticism.
The second thing to realize is that to accept the Book of Mormon, one is in fact accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet. So what about this test of a prophet? Isn't it legitimate to "give this question up to God?" No, it isn't. This is because God has already revealed His test for would-be Prophets - and it has nothing to do with prayer or feelings and God has no obligation to answer prayers that he has already answered! We do not have to ask God whether or not we should rob a bank or murder someone. Rather, James 1:5 says "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God . . . and it will be given to him." Wisdom is applied knowledge, not lack of it.
Have a great day
Richard B
Great comment Rich. As you said 'wisdom is applied knowledge' after a sense. At first this would seem to be contradictory as we can see that where ever the two are mentioned they are cited as different things (Dan 2:21, 1 Cor 12:8),
- wisdom is the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight
- knowledge is the result of having learnt and understood a lot of facts.
Either by itself is imbalanced. 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom'. We choose to fear God by believing in His revelation to us, a testimony of an experience, a knowledge. (Eph 1:17, Col 1:9).
"...that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." 2 Col 2:3
Jesus was our last prophet, the greatest prophet, the messiah to whome even John the Baptist (the greatest prophet among men) did not aquaint himself worthy to untie his sandal (Jesus our faithful kinsman redeemer). He was our final revelation of God, propogated to us by the uterrances of His divine Holy Spirit. There are no more prophets today (after this type of ministry), the work is finished. Our gifts to the church are united with the bretheren in all things, in unity in Christ, given to teaching the continued revelation of the Jewish-born messiah, not a new revelation.
Yeah, It'd be a different story if they told you the whole story up front - magic underwear, secret rituals, eternal marriage, spirit-sex and polygamy. Also that blacks were satan's representation on the earth, that they at one time killed those whao wanted to leave their religion.
SOME INFO FOR YOU TEIF: It has been reported in the past how the Mormon Church has invested huge sums of money to change their public image. Instead of fresh scrubbed, enthusiastic young men appearing at your door without warning, they are proceeded by hours of "public service" commercials dealing with family issues. As the following report shows, their strategy has worked.] The reason for their success lies in strategic advertising. Before Mormon missionaries appear at anyone's door, the church's high-tech public relations organization moves in with its sophisticated advertising techniques, electronic broadcasting, satellite dishes, print media, telecommunications, motion pictures, and radio. With $550 million set aside worldwide, including $100 million for the U.S., they are determined to see that their message reaches every home. And, what is their message? Not that individuals can become gods, or that temple rituals are required for full salvation, or that heaven can only be gained through the certification of Joseph Smith--these doctrines and others are concealed. Rather, they bombard the public with Christian values. More specifically, that happiness and family solidarity can be gained by following the teachings of Jesus Christ as contained in the Book of Mormon, the latter offered free through an 800 number. But, recently, they have devised a better strategy. Instead of a free Book of Mormon, they are now offering a free Bible. What greater way to avert the public's attention away from their unbiblical theology! The free Bibles are then delivered by enthusiastic missionaries intent on telling people how the Bible has been so mistranslated that it is untrustworthy; but the Book of Mormon is the pure word of God. In third world countries, rather than portraying family values, their advertising may focus on health and hygiene, law and order, or obedience to authority--whatever is applicable to that country's situation. Even sports are used. In South America, BYU basketball games were broadcast free for five years. When the Mormon missionaries were finally sent in, they were instructed to look only for houses that had TV antennas. Introducing themselves as BYU students, they inquired if anyone in the household had seen the games. It was an automatic door opener. Advertising in foreign countries requires time and perseverance. For example, the church had to invest ten years of broadcasting in the Dominican Republic before they were able to organize a mission. But it worked. They attributed the first one thousand baptisms to their advance publicity (Hutchinson, "Strategies of the Mormon Church, http://www.apologeticsindex.org/m01.html).

I haven't looked through all the sections yet but the mormon stuff is interesting - shows the satanic link (PS I've only just looked at this page after writing all the previous comments including the ones on today's post)
Hi Teif,
Do you intend preaching the gospel to Mormons then?
Pastor Tricker used to go to J.W's meeting to preach the gospel. The first time I met him I explained my enconter with two Mormons in Cornwall and them running away from me ( feeling quite proud of myself) soon to be brought down to earth by him when he explained his contacts with J.W's and the work he has done on the occult!
Matthew Tricker is a very honest, hard working man. I've heard his stories to El, and some of them do make your hair stand on end a bit lol. He deffinately has a ministry in working with (against!) the occult.
I actually tried to speak with a mormon online (LDS have an online missionary chat), but it was pretty hard - it's so deceptive. Any argument you have they can 'agree' with and twist because they have another 'revelation'. Can't say I feel particularyl called to the mormon missionary field (how's that for a play on words!), but we've got to try and put the word out there for everyone to hear. Guess I'll have to see where God leads.
Totally agree with your post & the comments.
This has been a research topic close to my heart that & the Masons (you should see the link there!) We had an encounter with two young female Morman Missionaries a few years back. Much to my husbands disgust, I felt a twinge of compassion (having just returned from a brief missionary stay in the Phillipines) and invited them in out of the impending storm & chatted for hours. Well 3 months later, a Christmas lunch & lots of laughs latter of quitely listening & sharing our perspective on Christ & what & why we do things the way we do at our church, the girls turned up to let us know they had been reassigned & would be leaving the next day. One of the girls asked if there was a church like hers in her home town & we pointed her in a few likely directions. The other girl we bummped into after her reassignment! That was a God ordained moment if ever I saw one & we recently recieved a wedding invitation to her wedding @ Mormon central in Salt Lake City!!! I say all that to say - they were compleatly disarmed when we didn't attack their doctrine, we had studied their beliefs & knew exactly what they were talking about & so gently discussed this in light of the Bible (we had agreed that this was our common ground & therefore our point of reference). They were reassigned after they asked if they could come to our church to see for themselves what we were talking about & NO morman missonaries are assigned to our area anymore!
I guess I say that to say never underestimate a God opportunity, Mormans are no diffferent to New agers, Hindus, Muslims or any other sprirtual searchers - they are hungry for God, we just need to do what we have been called to.
We gently discipled these girls, wheather they realised it or not and we saw a change of heart. I believe that a seed has been sewn & now it is up to God.
Great blog & sorry fro the 'post' ;-)
Thanks Amy, that's such a good testimony. I have a friend that works for 'Reach out tust' here in the UK (http://www.reachouttrust.org)
He was a former mormon, and he was just sharing his experience one day. They are lovely people, just badly decieved. When they try to come out it is very difficult for them and the can loose their whole families. Funnily enough, the guy (bishop) who expelled him from the church actually bumped into Mike after he left!
Looks like you remembered Jesus' words in Matt 11:29
"Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Thanks for your post!
